Swimming pool

Image of Swimming Pool

The swimming pool aims to provide a balanced programme to meet the needs of all our customer groups.

At the heart of every successful Leisure Centre is the swimming pool. Come along & enjoy yourself. Heated throughout to a comfortable temperature of 29-31 C.

Admission policy

All swimming pools are required to set a maximum number of swimmers for the size of the pool and have an admissions policy for children.

The maximum number of swimmers allowed in the pool is 45. During busy periods a band system will be introduced to maintain access to the pool while ensuring that customers have at least 45 minutes in the pool.

The purpose of the Child Admission Policy is to help safeguard that group of pool users who are historically most at risk of drowning in swimming pools. In the majority of drownings of children in swimming pools, the absence of parental attention has been found to be a key factor.

All children under the age of 8 must be supervised throughout their visit to the pool by an adult in the water with them, an adult is a person aged 16 years or older.

In normal swimming sessions, 1 adult can only supervise 1 child aged 4 or under, or 2 children aged between 5 and 7 years old.

In the family swimming session, 1 adult can supervise up to 2 children under the age of 8 at any one time.

Further details about the admissions policy and advice on bringing young children swimming are contained in the policies section.

Age should not be a barrier if you want to learn to swim that is why we will have no age restrictions on enrolment into our adult swimming lessons.

Our lessons are designed specifically for adults who lack water confidence and are non-swimmers although we can also cater for confident swimmers who want to improve their techniques and also adults who can swim but want to work on their skills and stamina.

Adult swimming lessons are fun enjoyable and structured to enable the individual swimmer to work at his/her own pace, the lessons are taught on Sunday evenings at 6.00pm and are taught by our friendly experienced fully qualified teachers. Please contact reception to book a place.
